Walt for leading us through the various input presentations covering various genres of photography and to Francois Venter, the Regional Director for Gauteng North for the organisation for this week end. Two years passed since the last election of Regional Directors and we would like to invite our members to nominate those people they would like to represent them in their region. The Photographic Society of South Africa was founded in 1954 as a non-profit organization\. to promote the interests of photography amongst all its members. PSSA represents its members and fosters their interests at all levels. PSSA aims to weld together the photographic and associated efforts of individuals and clubs into one strong unit. PSSA provides medals to and participates in the organisation of National and International Photographic Salons. Honours are bestowed and awards made by the Society. A Photographic Congress is staged each year in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting of the Society. This affords photographers a platform to meet fellow photographers and hear speakers who are recognised as leading authorities in their particular fields. The day to day operations of the Society are carried out by an Executive Committee, which is responsible to the Board of Directors. The Society consists of a number of divisions, which are controlled by individual Chairmen who are also responsible to the Directors. They must provide a quarterly report to the Executive Committee and Directors. Annually a directory is published containing the names and addresses of all members and member clubs, together with the Society's Honours and Awards holders. We have been privileged to see and enjoy life through photography. Let our members be remembered through their images which we share with you on these pages. PSSA Directors are in the process of drafting a Standards Handbook to make it easier for members to find all PSSA related documents in one place. According to the act, all companies need to register a Memorandum of Incorporation (MOI) with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC), which will replace the Statute and Articles of Association (Articles) adopted when The Photographic Society of South Africa (PSSA) was registered as a company in In accordance with the new act such section 21 companies will register a MOI as a Non Profit Company (NPO). Print as many as you like for Members of your Club or to distribute at your Regional Event or Congress. Alfred Kumalo has long been revered as a legendary photographer. He documented the apartheid era and his pictures helped to bring international pressure on the then government. He also documented Mandela’s life as well the Soweto uprising, the Rivonia Trial etc. We are proud to say that Alfred Kumalo is a Honorary Member of PSSA.
