What you should know about Porcupine Press
Porcupine Press is a small independent publisher based in Johannesburg. After years of dormancy, the decision was made to actively grow Porcupine Press through a partnership with Clare-Rose Julius who now manages the enterprise. He brings the experience gained, and several exciting new titles, to the Porcupine adventure. He has published 21 books and has won many awards for his writing. In 2010 he was honoured with a SALA Lifetime Achievement literary award. Gail Robbins (Production Manager), began in print production in the early 1990s. She has worked with high-end service providers (editors, designers, printers) to build an international reputation for quality production work at reasonable prices. She has extensive experience and knowledge of various types of project management. Clare-Rose Julius (Distribution & Marketing Manager) is one of the founding members, as well as the director for the not-for-profit company, African Narratives, that promotes the development of independent publishing and grassroots literature in South Africa. In 2012, she successfully completed her honours degree in Publishing Studies at the University of Witwatersrand and has been working in the industry for over five years. She possesses comprehensive knowledge of the South African publishing terrain and her main expertise lies in the field of marketing and distribution of books in South Africa. We are the leaders in Self Publishing with a heart for literature and authors. Our focus on quality is changing the face of the South African self publishing industry, one book at a time. To support authors in the production and distribution of high quality books, thereby counteracting the criticism of sub-standard products frequently aimed at self publishing endeavours. Professionalism: If we can’t do it excellently, we won’t take it on. Competency: We have proven abilities in writing, mentoring and editing, book design and production, marketing and distribution. Integrity: We don’t publish books that need more work. Accountability: We keep in touch with our authors and clients all the way through. They’re our partners; their books are joint ventures. Our prices are modular: clients only pay for what they need. Porcupine Press offers a comprehensive range of publishing services for authors who are considering the self publishing option. We offer a one-stop service from publishing right through to distribution of both paperbacks and eBooks. We are dedicated to independent publishing and take pride in giving personal service with face-to-face relationships and sincere, honest and knowledgeable advice about the book industry. Through our modular service approach you as the author will have the freedom to match individual service components to suit your needs. We will distribute and market your paperback, hardcover and ebooks, and form an invaluable intermediary function between you and the retail market. We’ll reprint previously published books with new covers, additions, new ISBN number, or whatever is needed. We can also print directly, if you have the print-ready files available. Even if you have not published with us, you are welcome to promote your book for sale on our online bookstore. We make use of a reliable courier service to deliver our books to clients in and around South Africa. All main centres such as Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town will be serviced. Areas outside the main centres are subject to additional courier fees, unless the buyer decides that they would like the book to be sent to them via SA Postal Services. All books accepted are subjected to a quality assessment process.
